Group classes alone won't get you there. Here's why private lessons with me are different.

1-on-1 Salsa and Bachata lessons in Melbourne. For dancers who hit a plateau

Group classes are how most of us fall in love with dancing. They're energetic, social, and a genuinely great way to learn the foundations.

But at some point — usually when you're halfway through an intermediate level and things stop clicking — you start to wonder: what am I actually missing?

The footwork feels right but something's off. You're learning combinations but they don't feel natural on the social floor. You know what to do, but not quite why it works — or why sometimes it doesn't.

That's the gap a private lesson is designed to close.

In a 1:1 session, we slow down. We figure out exactly where you are. We build a clear picture of what's holding you back and what to focus on next — and then we work on it together, at your pace, with your goals in mind.

No generic curriculum. No waiting for the rest of the class to catch up. Just focused, honest work on the things that will actually move you forward.

What my students say:

Within 5 minutes of my lesson with Harman, I knew he had a deep understanding of Salsa, dance, musicality, all the way down to the specific music theory, instruments, and movements.

He clearly has a passion for teaching as well; he helped me work on my Salsa timing and rhythm, was incredibly well-prepared for the session, and I've walked away with some excellent avenues to direct my focus.

Highly recommend!

How I teach

I'm Harman — a Latin dance instructor based in Melbourne, and an instructor at The Salsa Foundation.

I've been dancing for seven years and teaching for five, with over 2,000 hours on the floor across group classes, private sessions, and everything in between.

But the number that matters more to me than any of that is this: how quickly a student goes from confused to confident.

Every person I work with comes in at a different place. Different goals, different frustrations, different things they've been told or haven't been told. Before we start, I take the time to actually understand where you are — what's clicking, what isn't, and what you're hoping to feel on the other side of this.

Then we build from there.

My approach is simple: I teach the why behind every movement, not just the what. When you understand the principle, you don't just learn the combination — you understand how to use it, adapt it, and make it yours.

I also believe that the best learning happens when you feel safe enough to get things wrong. Mistakes aren't a problem in my sessions. They're usually where the most useful work is.

Frequently Asked Questions

01

How long do privates lessons go for?

Generally private lessons go for an hour, and we try to be flexibly around times, if you're a couple minutes late and the availability is there I will always try to accommodate as much as possible. Unfortunately if you're running very behind and I have something else afterwards, it might not be possible to extend.

03

Why choose a private lesson?

With private lessons, it's like having your own dance coach, giving you all the attention and tips you need to improve quickly.

Plus, you get to learn at your own pace and schedule, making it super convenient, and tailored just for you

02

What if I don't specifically know where to start or if I need a private lesson?

The benefit of a private lesson can often be unexpected! Sometimes we come in to work on one specific aspect of your dancing and delve deeper into different techniques too! The nice advantage we have is that we can take time to just have a dance and discover other topics to cover and come back to as well.

04

Do you help leads and follows?

Over the last few years I've been refining my technique not just as a lead but as a follow as well! And you will frequently find me following with students and friends, its something I enjoy as well.

And as a result I've been able to push my knowledge, about following and footwork, and can really dial into how to make you a better follow!

Most dancers who feel stuck stay stuck for months because they keep hoping group classes will eventually click. They don't.

One session can change that.
